What's New in Version 2.1 |
|
Version 2.1 of SketchRight™ contains several new features
that are not in the user manual. These features include:
- Advanced Geometry Mode: In the options
menu under Edit there is a check box labeled Advanced Geometry
Mode. Use this mode if you can not change the dimension
of a selection such as a line length and you are confident
that the drawing should be free to change, i.e. you should
be able to apply your dimension. Advanced Geometry mode
tells SketchRight™ to evaluate the geometry using a more
advanced set of algorithms. When you select this option
you will see the dimension box become active so you can
now set the value desired. Once you are in this mode you
can not turn it off for the current drawing. If you do,
it will display an inconsistent dimension dialog box. Note
this mode may reduce the responsiveness of SketchRight™
since it will be testing a more sophisticated set of algorithms.
The mode is saved with the drawing. The default is un-checked.
See the on-line help for more detail.
- Bringing up the dimension box in line mode:
In the options menu under Edit there is a check box labeled
Bring up dimension box in line mode. Clicking in this check
box brings up the dimension box after each line is drawn
when in line mode. This is especially useful when drawing
a layout and you want to measure and apply the dimension
after each line is drawn, such as drawing the perimeter
of a house. The operation with this mode is draw dimension,
draw dimension as you create your layout.
- Zoom Box: A new button on the lower left
of the tool palette is for zooming into a selected area.
Tap the button and then drag a mouse or pen diagonally across
the area you want to zoom in on. SketchRight will make the
box you drew the center and size of the screen. To repeat
this tap the zoom box again and repeat the selection on
the drawing by dragging the pen across the area you want
to zoom in on.
- Zoom to Fit: A new button on the lower
right of the tool palette is for resizing the drawing to
fit on the screen. Tap the button and then all of the drawing
will be resized to fit on the screen. This is especially
useful when used in conjunction with the zoom box tool to
quickly zoom into and out of areas where additional detail
is required.
- Decimal Feet: In the Dimension styles
dialog found in the options menu under Edit is a check box
for displaying decimal feet. SketchRight shows the value
to the third decimal place only.
- Free Text of Various Fonts and Sizes:
Text can be placed anywhere on the drawing or attached to
points or lines. Both text and dimension fonts can be changed
by selecting fonts under the Edit menu

A REVOLUTIONARY DRAWING/MEASURING SOLUTION |
|
SketchRight™ is the new easy-to-use, precision-sketching
software for mobile professionals who want to create accurate,
scaled drawings in the field. It is ideal for estimators,
police investigators, space planners, utility workers, appraisers,
inspectors, architects and others. SketchRight™ provides
precision-sketching capability on any portable or desktop
Windows PC, with special support for pen-capable portables.
You don't need to be a CAD/drafting or surveying expert SketchRight™
makes creating accurate, scaled drawings and documentation
as easy as paper and pencil! (SketchRight™
is also available in an OEM version for rapid integration
into customized applications.)
|
|
WHAT SKETCHRIGHT™ DOES THAT NO OTHER SOFTWARE CAN DO |
|
SketchRight™ first converts your freehand sketch
into editable objects such as lines, circles and polygons.
Then, you select an object and assign a length, height, width
or radius from an electronic measuring device, or simply use
a tape measure. As soon as the measurement is entered, SketchRight™
instantly SNAPS that part of the drawing
into scale! With SketchRight™, you
can create an accurate, scaled layout that is automatically
verified before you even leave the site. Then, use the scaled
drawing in your report or estimate, or transfer the drawing
to a desktop CAD system for detailing, archiving, or integration
with other data.

|
BENEFITS |
Increase Personnel Efficiency
Make your first visit to a site your only visit, because
your initial drawing can be so accurate and complete. Also,
you can eliminate an entire step in your process because there's
no need for expensive CAD/drafting from field notes.
Speed Up Sales Process
Deliver accurate estimates faster than ever, cutting days
or weeks out of the typical sales cycle.
Ensure Real-World Accuracy
The patented, intelligent software actually checks the validity
of the drawing and graphically lets you know if the layout
actually "closes" or not. The optional interface to electronic
measurement devices eliminates many sources of errors: "typos",
illegible notes, tape measure sag/stretch, tape reading and
transposition errors.
Decrease Materials Costs
Software "geometry-checking" increases confidence so you
can reduce the usual allowance for wastage.
No CAD/Surveyor Training
You supply the rough sketch of the layout and the dimensions
- SketchRight's patented software intelligence does
the rest... creating an accurate, scaled drawing for you automatically.
Increase Safety & Convenience
With optional laser measuring devices, measurements can be
made from a safe, "stand-off" distance. Measure ceilings without
ladders. Overcome hazards such as chemicals, water, mud, explosives,
or drop-offs. SketchRight automatically triangulates positions
of hard-to-reach objects.
Automate Tedious Calculations
Perimeters, Distances, Angles and more... even complex areas
with arcs and exclusion of sub-areas. Take new measurements
directly off the scaled drawing.
Fit Into Existing Systems & Data
DXF import/export capability enables you to work with your
desktop CAD systems. Import custom symbol libraries as well.
Integrate Into Your Software
SketchRight™ is also available as a Visual Basic
Control (VBX) for use with Microsoft Visual Basic or Visual
C++. With the VBX, you can incorporate SketchRight™
capability with your custom forms, databases or mobile communications
solutions.

Drawing & Text Objects
Draw freehand with automatic shape recognition or use the
standard drawing toolbar: Point, Line, Circle, Arc, Drag lines
into arcs, Polygon, Rectangle, Ink, Symbols. Line/Fill Attributes:
weight, style, color, pattern. Text: Font type, style, size,
and color. Show/hide text. Attach text to drawing objects.
Intelligent Geometry-Checking
Drawings are automatically checked for inconsistent dimensions.
The software ensures that layouts will "close" because SketchRight™
is based on patented Constructive Variational Geometry (CVG)
software.
Drawing Constraints
Length, Angle, Point-on-line/arc/circle, Same point, Origin/Coordinates,
Distance between 2 points, point-and-line, or any two objects,
Snap-to-vertical/horizontal, Tangency, Grid size, Grid snap
on/off, Lock/Unlock or Show/Hide constraints
Editing & Text
Cut, Copy, Paste, Delete, Zoom, Pan, Drag/Resize, Bring-to-front/Send-to-Back,
Undo/Redo, Objects can be "Active" or "Inactive" - e.g. existing
CAD drawings can be imported as a background for "red-lining"
with editable objects.
Units
Metric, English in decimal/fractions; Degrees/Radians; Square
Feet/Meters
Symbols
Create custom symbols in SketchRight™, or import
symbol libraries via DXF transfer. Drag & drop symbols
from a symbol palette into the drawing, preserving the symbols'
dimensions! Precise symbol placement the distances or coordinates
you enter automatically SNAP symbols into
the correct position in your drawing.
Printing
Print to scale or fit to page. Use Windows-compatible printers
and plotters.
